Intro into the Cloud Era
The growth of Cloud based computing has outstripped even the most optimistic predictions. That growth is based on a compelling value proposition: speed to market, agility to bring forward or retire services, and the opportunity to reduce costs of infrastructure. But how does it affect testing? Can the use of Clouds help in reducing the costs and complexity of testing? Yes! This can be achieved by both testing with the Cloud and testing on the Cloud.
Testing with the Cloud
The Cloud breaks down limitations caused by testing on internal resources. It gives test teams the opportunity to free themselves from internal hardware availability issues and enable an effective way to collaborate. It not only makes it possible to use it for your testing and acceptance environments, but also makes it possible to implement “desktop” alike solutions in the Cloud. Thus using test tools from the Cloud! Practice of this shows that this all creates an agility of the Cloud for your testing tools and environments.This will be shown in several demo's regarding Cloud and SaaS.
Testing on the cloud
The cloud needs to be tested itself. It needs to be elastic, on-demand and secure. The cloud brings changes to the test strategy and what to test for. As clouds use standardized software, acceptance testing will move away from functionality. We will make a shift to the non-functionals. How do we test that? We will tell you about our results and the do’s and don'ts on testing on the cloud.

Bart Vrenegoor is a test manager. He’s experienced in managing several types of tests, like system tests, end-to-end tests and performance tests. He gained his experience at several clients in various branches. Besides his work as a test manager, Bart is also working as a Research & Development Consultant. He’s an expert on several test & QA related topics, like Cloud, Model Based Testing and the testing of Business Intelligence. He’s an international speaker, coach and author on these subjects.
In his current role, Bart is the global lead of test offerings around IBM software within the Sogeti Group. As part of this role, he's responsible for the services around software testing and cloud computing.
