15:00 - 16:00 The changing Role of a Tester in an Agile Environment Mason Womack
Immobilien Scout GmbH

So your company has decided to implement Scrum, but your QA department is used to working as a separate entity, in a more traditional way, where the QA activities form a separate phase in the development process? How can you transition to a process which supports agile methodology and ensures that testing takes place parallel to development? And just what should an agile tester do as a member of a scrum team?
Immobilien Scout has made the transition beginning in April 2010 from a traditional QA department to a team of fully functioning agile test engineers, working side by side with software development. The role of QA was completely overhauled in the process, and the duties of the test engineer were greatly expanded. This talk focuses on the current role of a test engineer at Immobilien Scout, and the ways members of the QA team overcame their fears and doubts about their new found responsibilities.
This talk also discusses the interaction between the test engineer and other participants in the software
development lifecycle, and ways to improve quality of the software by fostering productive communication at all business levels. Also discussed will be solutions to common problems encountered when implementing agile testing, including how to complete testing activites during a sprint and how to test rapidly-changing software.
