Non-Functional Testing or even better to start with non-functional requirements, belong to the top ten list of most freighting words in software development, especially when it comes to the point of sale of your product at times of extremely competitive market. More than this, in the last decade we’ve been facing new challenges of introducing agile work concepts, rapid growth of reducing development efforts as well as challenging the QA and testing efforts. This led to a situation where we, the people who work in these software projects, put more efforts on functionality, on features - both developing them and testing them - while forgetting that there are more areas to be tackled, such as these non-functional places. Yes, it’s maybe more “sexy” to test new features than failovers. But how many projects did we see getting to the customer’s lab and fail... In the telecom industry as well as in all of these complex systems or high capacity scaled systems, these non-functional requirements, developments and testing are a MUST! Sometimes these tests can be the first ones done by the customers. Even for mobile applications, the companies who develop apps invest time and efforts to perform non-functional tests, especially those companies who develop these apps for corporates or for mass usage.

In my presentation, I’ll show you where not to fail and even how to add value to the project and to the quality of the product throughout better requirements and risks assessment of these non-functional areas.

It’s also a practical presentation and I’ll show different types of organizations, as well as domains in the industry, and how and who are those who will take over to cover that.
